AWN is one of the popular dock that used in many Linux distros.
But to run AWN, you need to enable you compositors inside your Linux like beryl or compiz to run properly. AWN is still under development and contains many bugs. To report a bugs, please contact:

This guide was tested under Ubuntu Gutsy 32-bit. For further information click this link: link
Before we begin, make sure you have all the needed ubuntu repositories installed, namely universe and ubuntu-updates. This can be done in System -> Administration -> Software Sources by enabling ‘recommended updates’ under the ‘Updates’ tab, and also enabling ‘Community-maintained Open Source software’ under the ‘Ubuntu Software’ tab.
Now open a terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal), we’ll be pasting a lot of commands. Remember, paste only 1 line at a time unless otherwise directed.
1. First, add the repo:
echo 'deb http://download.tuxfamily.org/syzygy42 gutsy avant-window-navigator'| sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list echo 'deb-src http://download.tuxfamily.org/syzygy42 gutsy avant-window-navigator'| sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list
2. Add the apt key:
wget http://download.tuxfamily.org/syzygy42/reacocard.ascsudo apt-key add reacocard.ascrm reacocard.asc
3. Than install AWN:
sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install avant-window-navigator-bzr awn-core-applets-bzr
After you finish the installation you can start AWN from Applications->Accessories->Avant Window Navigator.
Note: There will be a stable AWN package in Ubuntu Hardy’s universe, or in the meantime, you can use the getdeb package. Note that I do not support either of these installation methods and can provide no help in using them.
